of North Texas

Goal: To advance Optical Science and Optical Engineering in North Texas, by providing communication and networking opportunities for optics professionals, and highlighting education and career opportunities.


The OSNTX expects to have monthly Zoom meetings going forward, and Wed. at 7 pm was a suggested time.


Optical Fabrication and Testing of Dental Loupes

Speaker John Taylor has been in optical fabrication for over 45 years. Currently working for Quality Aspirators in Duncanville Tx. Quality Aspirators produces Medical and Dental loupes for dentists and doctors and dental hygienists. These are made under Q-Optics a subsidiary of Quality Aspirator. John will be giving a talk on the different type of loupes they fabricate along with a video tour of the optical fabrication shop.

"Introduction to Applied Optics" course at Collin College

A new Continuing Education course has started at Collin College, thanks to the efforts of Janeil Lorin (janeil.lorin@archeroptx.com), Karen Musa  (kmusa@collin.edu), and many others. It is hoped that this will fill a gap in training related to optics in this North Texas region. The flyer for the course is here:

The OSNTX embraces all activities that involve optics in the North Texas region, and although it is an Optica local group, people with a closer affinity to the SPIE and to IEE Photonics are members also. We have had some funding from Optica, and one thing we are still getting used to is the "Optical Society of America" suddenly changing its name to "Optica" in October 2021 (the old logo is below).
